First Ever Gathering of Apple Jailbreak ‘Dream Team’ Hackers at Annual Security Conference in Amsterdam
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 2 April 2012 – The group of hackers responsible for pulling off the widely-considered-impossible jailbreak of Apple’s popular iPhone 4S and iPad 2 devices will be showcasing their research at Europe’s annual HITB Security Conference. This will mark the first time ever that all members of the group will appear together, and their groundbreaking talks are scheduled to take place at HITBSecConf2012 – Amsterdam on the 24th and 25th of May at the Okura Hotel, Amsterdam.
Known as the “iOS Jailbreak Dream Team”, the group is made up of members from the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team. The group will be giving two one-hour presentations to cover the inner workings behind their Corona (A4) and Absinthe (A5) jailbreak solutions. Both talks will also detail the revolutionary fusion of exploits within exploits involved in the undertaking as well as disclose inner circle details on a wide range of innovative iOS exploits.
In addition, @MuscleNerd – a core member of the iPhone Dev Team – will also be giving a separate talk on the evolution and future of iPhone baseband unlocking. Baseband locking restricts the use of the phone to one particular carrier and is a common practice with subsidized iPhones. His presentation will share details of changes Apple have made to the iPhone and how these have affected both software-based unlocks and hardware-based SIM solutions.
As posted on the the official Chronic Dev Team site, greenpois0n.com:
“For the first time in history, and for HITBSecConf2012 – Amsterdam ONLY, all four of the core Dream Team members will be united (in person! not just on IRC!) to present all our hard work and answer all your burning questions: @pod2g, @pimskeks & I (@p0sixninja) from Chronic Dev Team, along with the inimitable @planetbeing from iPhone Dev Team!”
This year’s HITBSecConf2012 – Amsterdam will run across a full week featuring three training days and two conference days. The talks by the iOS Jailbreak Dream Team are slated for the conference days on the 24th and 25th of May. About iOS jailbreaking: iOS jailbreaking, or simply jailbreaking, is the process of removing the limitations imposed by Apple on devices running the iOS operating system through use of custom security exploits. Jailbreaking allows users to gain elevated access to the operating system. Consequently it also allows users to download additional applications, extensions and themes that are unavailable through the official Apple App Store.
Note from Wikipedia: The U.S. Copyright Office explicitly recognized an exemption to the DMCA to permit jailbreaking in order to allow iPhone owners to use their phones with applications that are not available from Apple’s store, and to unlock their iPhones for use with unapproved carriers – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking#United_States_legal_status
