Yes – the HITB Charity Auction is BACK!
Our Auctions have been known to go all out in the name of charity – some will remember the crazy antics, bidding wars and legendary stories from auctions past. Thanks to great donors, an amazing Auctioneer and a generous audience, over the years the HITB Charity Auctions have raised thousands of dollars for various charity organizations.
So we’re really excited to be able to bring back the Auction this year, AND really ecstatic that Roberto Preatoni will reprise his role as Auctioneer!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
When: 11th of October at 18:30.
Where: In Ballroom 1 of The InterContinental Kuala Lumpur where Track 1 talks are held
To Participate In Person
The items listed in the table below will be on display at the Charity Display Area at the HITB Registration Counter. This Area is open to public and interested bidders can come check out the items during the conference days – 10th / 11th October. Winning bids must be paid on the spot by cash or credit card via hotel system only.
To Participate Remotely
During the auction, a Skype messaging channel will be set up to report on the auction in progress and participants can message in their bids. Remote participants can also follow the proceedings and your own bids via the auction live stream.
To participate
1. First, please add Skype ID: HITBCharityAuction as your contact.
2. Please provide by chat message your first name, last name, postal address and contact number.
3. Prior to the auction we first require a MYR10 donation to confirm your participation and verify your payment ability.
4. During the auction, we will include you into a Skype chat channel to follow the auction in progress.
5. Bids are accepted via chat window.
6. Payment must be within 30 minutes of winning the bid. Only Paypal payments will be accepted.
If payment is not received within this time frame the winning bid is revoked and item offer is withdrawn. Please remember the HITB Auction is an effort to raise funds for charity.

The Auctions have seen an eclectic mix of items go under the hammer throughout the years. One of the craziest bidding war was for Julian Assange’s autographed MacBook and someone out there is the lucky owner of a copy of Beyond Fear signed with a handwritten crypto puzzle by Bruce Schneier himself.

ABOUT THE CHARITY BODY
This year, all proceeds from the charity auction will go to the Needy Cancer Patient Fund managed by Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital - a cancer hospital on the island of Penang, in the North of Malaysia whose goal is to make treatment affordable to all cancer patients.
In their own words, here’s more about what they do:
The Organisation
Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital has been providing care to cancer stricken patients from the northern region of Malaysia since the hospital was founded in 1976. Since the inception of the hospital, we have treated and cared for more than 25,000 cancer patients. As a mission hospital, Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital offers cancer treatment to patients regardless of age, race and religion.
Mount Miriam has also been in collaboration with the Ministry of Health since the early 80’s to provide radiation treatment for patients from the Government General Hospitals in the Northern Region. This collaboration entails Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital contributing high end and state-of-the-art cancer treatment to the community at a much subsidised rate.
The Needy Cancer Patient Fund
The Needy Cancer Patient Fund was set up since the early years to assist financially challenged and destitute cancer patients regardless of religion, race or ethnic group. Since 1985, we have disbursed more than RM10m from the Fund to subsidise the care of these needy cases.
