HACKWEEKDAY
HackWEEKDAY – Turbo Edition: Expose Your Extensions!
Following the success of HackWEEKDAY held for the first time last year at the HITB Security Conference in Kuala Lumpur, HITB2012AMS will see the introduction of an all new HackWEEKDAY ‘Turbo Edition’ – a 12 hour hackathon hosted alongside the 3rd annual HITB Security Conference in Amsterdam.
Sponsored by Mozilla, the competition takes place on the 24th and 25th of May during two six-hour sessions where hackers, developers and coders from around the world are challenged to design and implement their own proof of concept solution to open problems with the common theme of “Browsers & Extensions”. The best solution, as judged by an expert panel containing 2 members of the HITB Core Crew and Mozilla will win themselves not just the eternal bragging rights of coming up with a unique solution to the growing problem of web and client side security, but also walk away with EUR1337 in cold hard cash!
The worlds of software developers and computer security are full of interfaces and possibilities to learn from each other. We want to spark this interest both ways to give people a more broad view of security and development. All contestants will receive a complimentary pass to the conference (worth EUR899), which means a chance to meet the big names (Adam Gowdiak, Chronic Dev Team, iPhone Dev Team, Itzhak ‘zuk’ Avraham and many others) and catch up with the latest developments in the world of computer security.
We will only admit 30 developers into the arena so prospective contestants will have their coding skills tested by means of a qualification challenge. We will select the best 15 students and best 15 professional developers. Think you’ve got what it takes to compete with the best? Head to http://bit.ly/hwkd2012nl get your code on and send us your solutions! Submissions are due no later than Sunday 6th May 2012!
Why are we doing this?
1) To spark an interest for security related projects among the ’regular’ developer community
2) To spread secure coding practices by putting developers in contact with the security community and specific subject matter experts
3) To creating a breeding ground for the development of interesting new projects
4) To have a great time!
What’s in it for you (as a developer / hacker / code-junkie)?
1) 1x complimentary pass to HITBSecConf2012 – Amsterdam (May 24th / 25th)
2) Free food, drinks & copious amounts of bandwidth at the HackWEEKDAY ‘hackarena’
